LASANAA, an art trust, was established in 2007 to promote dialogue and exchange in the field of visual arts, as also to help develop alternative forms of art including video, sound, media art, performance, public and community based art, and other modes of experimentation that extend the borders of art. Since its inception, LASANAA has become a platform for experimentation by providing new concepts and materials to Nepali artists.
LASANAA’s main objective is to bring about changes in society through art workshops, residencies and discourses, and it has been developing and implementing various projects to practice its unique brand of ‘artivism’ i.e. art + activism. These include national and international workshops (including the current seminar and workshop), various local workshops, and exhibitions and presentations. In addition, LASANAA has been organizing monthly art discourses for the past three years and is in the process of establishing a Live Art Hub (LAH) at the premisses of Martin Chautari, Thapathali.
LAH will be a physical interactive space in Kathmandu serving as an interactive living art piece. This space will be used for production, exhibition and dissemination of both artworks and ideas, and will function as a site for interactions, workshops, film screenings, performances and other experimental modes of cultural production. It will also be a site where various socio-political issues of the region will be discussed in relation to art.
